I’m Marco Brunner, a front-end developer living in Zürich.
By day I build interfaces for a mid-sized Swiss insurance company, which mostly means long forms, strict accessibility requirements and a design system that has to survive six teams. By night I tinker: small tools, too many side projects, and this blog.
Bitflut is German for “a flood of bits”, which is how most of the web feels in 2026. The posts here try to push back against that a little. I write about things I actually shipped and got wrong first: CSS layouts that hold up, JavaScript that stays small, and the plumbing people skip — caching headers, deployments, the stuff between git commit and a page in someone’s browser.
How this site is built
It’s an Astro project with content collections and Markdown. It is built on my laptop into plain HTML, CSS and a few hundred bytes of JavaScript for the dark-mode toggle, then copied with rsync to a shared webhosting at cyon in Switzerland. There’s no Node server running anywhere, no analytics and no cookies. Fonts are self-hosted; the images are SVGs I drew in code.
